Introducing MUDr. Vladimír Lelek (2)
30. března 2021
MUDr. Vladimír Lelek has been working for EUC PLS since 2012 and for the past eight years has served as the chief physician of the clinic located on the premises of one of our important long-term clients. In his work, he adheres to the principle of "do the right thing and do it properly”. In practicing medicine, he is guided by the principle of primum non nocere (“first, do no harm”) and likes order, which he requires from his colleagues.
MUDr. Lelek’s work at the clinic is diverse and includes a broad range of activities and services provided to the client in the context of standard occupational health services, as well as preventive medical care in the provision of urgent medical care and rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
The demanding nature of MUDr. Lelek’s work is due in part to the fact that the clinic is located on the grounds of a major client, where despite a significant degree of automation, robotisation and mechanisation of production, a substantial part of production operations depends on physical and organisational work carried out by people. It is therefore not surprising that, due to a number of factors, many jobs there are categorised in the third, high-risk category.
That requires a broader scope of occupational medical check-ups and necessary examinations. The clinic is equipped specifically for these procedures (spirometry, audiometry, electrocardiogram – EKG, electromyography – EMG) and examinations performed by the clinic’s nurses.
The difficulty of the work performed by production workers requires extensive knowledge of all workplaces and the particular production operations carried out by the workers. Therefore, the doctor’s work includes not only supervision in accordance with the legal regulations, but also resolution of particular ergonomic issues at the workplaces, which the doctor visits several times a week. He also provides consultations on the arrangement of work-rotation matrices (rotation of production workers in individual work operations on the production line) in order to prevent unilateral overworking and, if necessary, implementation of corrective measures. He also takes part in the preparation of required documents for the company’s management, recommends adjustments to work assignments and adjustments in performance of work operations (working position, etc.). He also participates in the investigation of work-related injuries.
In order to prevent health problems among workers, MUDr. Lelek uses a sophisticated system for early detection of employees’ health problems. Prevention can also include the provision of preventive medical care in the area of work-related health disorders that arise in manufacturing plants. Here it is possible to use a very well-equipped rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility, which is able to provide a broad range of services (electrotherapy, laser, ultrasound, shockwave, thermotherapy, whirlpool, magnetotherapy, lymphatic drainage, gym).
Despite the substantial attention focused on prevention, occupational illnesses still occur among the client’s employees due to the nature of their work (fast-paced, physically demanding work in unfavourable working positions). Part of the doctor’s work thus involves participating in treatment of occupational illnesses, as well preventing such illnesses from going untreated (regular meetings with the company’s representatives together with consultations on the suitability of work assignments, recommendations for treatment in the case of temporary disability, active prevention in the case of workers at risk of occupational illnesses and regular monitoring of their health conditions. The doctor also provides consultations to workers on temporary disability aimed at limiting the recurrence and chronicity of occupational illnesses.
The chief physician leads a small team composed of three doctors, four nurses and two physiotherapists.
“I’m fortunate that I can rely on my colleagues and that I have a good team of professionally capable people who work selflessly,” says MUDr. Vladimír Lelek.
