Even medicine cabinets need to be cleaned out and sorted (2)

When you do regular house cleaning, remember that your medicine cabinet deserves it as well. As you will find out in the article with PharmDr. Petr Sedlák from EUC Lékárna Liberec, it's not just about removing expired drugs."Besides the fact that they no longer contain the stated amount of the active substance, they can also be harmful to your health," notes PharmDr. Petr Sedlák, Chief Pharmacist of EUC Lékárna Liberec.
You can easily identify expired medications by the date on each package (blister pack). But you should also get rid of any tablets whose purpose you longer know, or antibiotics that you didn’t finish taking. "And for liquid dosage forms, make sure that they are not open longer than stated by the manufacturer, as bacteria and fungi can multiply in them when left standing for a long time," emphasizes PharmDr. Petr Sedlák, Chief Pharmacist of EUC Lékárna Liberec.
Take unused and expired medicines, which may not even be in the original packaging, to the nearest pharmacy. You can also hand over medicinal tea or food supplements for professional disposal there.
Take advantage of the opportunity to top off your medicine cabinet with what you have consumed during the winter and spring, such as vitamins. "Not only in winter, but also in spring, it’s good to take vitamin C and dietary supplements containing beta-glucans," says PharmDr. Petr Sedlak.
It is easier and more convenient to take a complex of vitamins, where the tablet or capsule contains vitamins and trace elements in a balanced composition. But before you buy it, you should consult a pharmacist, because not all vitamin complexes are suitable for everyone. "For example, vitamin K can interfere with the effects of drugs in specific illnesses," emphasizes PharmDr. Petr Sedlak .
The same goes for herbal teas. "They are among traditional medicines, they help with many diseases, in addition, they can help us maintain a drinking regime. However, some are not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women, others are not recommended for children or for some illnesses, " says Petr Sedlák .
As sunlight slowly begins to intensify, it is also advisable to purchase skin protection products. "Currently, sprays are popular mainly because of their easy application, especially for men who do not like creams and lotions. In young children, it is important that the creams have a physical protection factor or be combined with a chemical one. A purely physical factor is suitable for atopics. Choose the degree of protection according to the sensitivity of the skin, it is not a mistake to start with 50+ and gradually reduce it according to the skin's reaction,“ advises PharmDr. Sedlák.
Each medicine cabinet also includes repellents against ticks and mosquitoes. In the pharmacy you can choose from a wide range of products - in the form of a spray with a sprayer, with a fine perfume. Bracelets from which repellent components are gradually released over a period of several weeks are also very popular and practical.
Lice is associated with winter, when children suffer most often, but even in spring or summer, another wave of their occurrence may come. Therefore, medicines against them should always be available in your medicine cabinet. "Substances from the group of insecticides that worked well but had many side effects have been banned. However, you can buy solutions based on silicone oils, which often contain plant extracts, such as Australian tea tree with a repellent effect, "adds PharmDr. Petr Sedlák , Chief Pharmacist of EUC Lékárna Liberec.
